Smaller companies report: Thursday close
UK small caps closed lower, reaching day lows as it tracked late losses in the wider market, while disappointing trading updates and placing news sank shares in Cartucho and Yoomedia respectively.
At the close, the FTSE Small Cap index reached day lows, losing 7 points at 3,669/2, while the FTSE 100 reversed earlier gains, down by 41.4 points at 6,041.0.
On the downside, shares in Cartucho sank by 32½p at 106½p, after the group announced a delay in the commencement of the shipment of kiosks in the early part of the year due to manufacturing delays in Spain. Meanwhile, disappointing figures also weighed on the minnows.
Weak numbers knocked shares in Titon Holdings, down 16½p at 102½p after unveiling a 24% drop first half pre-tax profit to £420,000 from £560,000.
More-than-halved first quarter numbers clipped 10p from Allied Healthcare, at 257½p, while Maverick Entertainment ran back 0.05p at 0.3p after posting full-year losses.
News of a placing below market prices, meanwhile, dragged down Yoomedia, 1.12p weaker at 4.5p as the group placed stock at 4.25p apiece.
In addition, Servision shaved off 3p at 27½p after raising £1.5m by placing 3,895,647 shares at 21.37p each.
Over on the upside, contract spurred shares in Nexus Management, up by 0.17p at 0.92p, after the provider of IT Managed Services signed a contract with Hill & Knowlton for NexPhone.
Buyers also came to Totally, up 0.25p at 1.87p as the group formed a five-year joint venture with London Greek Radio to launch an online portal targeting the UK's Greek community.
News of an acquisition yesterday continued to benefit shares in Advanced Power Component, up 2.75p at 12p.
Finally, shares in Metals Exploration were stronger, up 5½p at 47p after posting an upbeat resource estimate for the Runruno gold-molybdenum deposit.
