Doctor Who transforms toy-maker's profits

This article is more than 17 years old

Strong demand for Doctor Who products has pushed up profits at The Character Group, the toy and game-maker.

The company reported this morning that its products were in strong demand over Christmas, and that profits for this year would substantially exceed current market expectations.

Toys associated with the time-travel TV series - such as the Cyberman voice changer helmet, which fits over your head and can play recorded phrases or modify the user's voice - proved particularly popular.

"The high street retailers have been reporting very mixed trading conditions, however, this is not being reflected in the group's performance, which continues to strengthen," said Character today.

Shares rose by 14.74p to 170p by lunchtime. The company will release its interim results on April 24.
