Entertainment One strikes new deal

This article is more than 16 years old

Rapidly growing media company Entertainment One will add Spanish hit Volver to the list of films it distributes this week after yet another North American acquisition.

The film and DVD distributor is expected to announce as soon as today that it has bought Canadian rival Seville Entertainment for £2.8m. It follows Entertainment One's deal to buy Contender Entertainment, the UK's leading independent distributor of TV shows and films on DVD, whose titles include Helen Mirren hit The Queen, spy series Spooks and Life on Mars.

The Canadian deal adds more than 500 films, including Oscar-nominated Volver (above), starring Penélope Cruz, to Entertainment One's library of rights. The Aim-listed group plans to double in size in the next 18 months.
