AG Barr sales up 22.5%, thanks to Rubicon
Irn-Bru firm AG Barr today said sales were up by 22.5% due to recent warm weather and the addition of exotic fruit drink brand Rubicon.
Juicy news: The popularity of Rubicon has sent shares at AG Barr soaring
Stripping out last year's acquisition of Rubicon, Barr said like-for-like sales increased by 7.9% in the period between February 1 and May 29.
Trading in the latter half of May benefited from improved weather but Barr said it was also helped by recent investment in its core brands, which include Strathmore water, St Clements and fizzy drink Tizer.
Investec Securities estimated that some 2% of the like-for-like improvement came from annual price increases, with the rest due to improved volumes.
Nicola Mallard, of Investec, added: 'The performance of Rubicon has also been increasingly positive, despite the juice category's weakness.'
The 134-year-old soft drinks producer recently said underlying pre-tax profits increased by 9.7% to £23.4m last year, with its core brands enjoying growth ahead of the market in the period to 31 January.
Sales of Irn-Bru and Diet Irn-Bru were up almost 8% over the full year.
