Investors in the UK's biggest construction firm Balfour Beatty are advised to take up their rights to new shares after the company announced a £353 million fundraising to pay for a major US acquisition. The Parsons Brinckerhoff deal could be a transformational move for Balfour and the shares are offered at a 48% discount to the previous closing price of 344p.
Doctors' surgery operator Primary Health Properties is also raising £60 million to reduce debts and invest in its portfolio. Its new shares are at a 27% discount for current investors and the firm is still committed to its healthy dividend policy. Shareholders should take part in the fundraising, while the shares are rated a buy at 285p.

Cash-and-carry wholesaler Booker has produced strong like-for-like sales growth in the last three months. The supplier of goods to independent shops, restaurants and pubs, which has 400,000 customers, has strong management and is currently upgrading its stores and internet offering. The shares are tipped at 39.5p.
Specialist book publisher Quarto produces niche products on subjects from tattoos to tractors and are beautifully presented. Although trading has been more difficult this year, many customers are dedicated hobbyists which makes sales resilient. Investors should buy at 95p.
