Marston's and Travelodge in joint venture
Budget hotel operator Travelodge is teaming up with pub company Marston's Inns and Taverns in a £40m expansion plan.
The companies are looking for sites where they can develop a hotel alongside a pub restaurant.
The land will be purchased by Marston's, which will construct a pub on part of the site.
The rest will be leased out to Travelodge, which will build a hotel next door.
The companies will tomorrow embark on a search for suitable plots of land. They are seeking plots of around one acre located on busy A roads.
Their first joint venture - on a site in Wincanton, Somerset- is being seen as the blueprint for future developments.
Travelodge is building a 57-bedroom hotel next door to a 6,500 sq ft Marston's family pub restaurant. Both will open next year.
Marston's managing director, Derek Andrew, said: 'By co-locating with Travelodge we will be able to develop sites which would not have been viable for ourselves alone.'
The companies are expecting to secure a further two sites this year and are seeking to find ten more locations next year, making 13 in total.
