Doctor Who toy firm shows character
Character group, which makes toys for Doctor Who, has beaten market expectations with strong sales, and forecast a return to profits this year.
Character: Makes toys under licence from the BBC
It said this year's sales were ahead of forecasts despite a 'difficult trading environment' and predicted that it would 'substantially outperform' its target for September, the beginning of its new financial year.
Shares in the firm - which makes the Doctor Who toys under licence from the BBC - leapt 11.5p to 153p on the back of the buoyant update.
The company predicted that the trend of rising sales would extend through the lucrative holiday period, building on its success distributing toys for Zhu Zhu Pets, responsible for last Christmas's top-selling toy Go Go Hamster.
The firm also expects to launch a range for pre-school children shortly.
Character said that it 'cannot ignore the likely difficulties which the economic cycle will throw at us', but insisted it would be able to increase market share.
