Sell-off saves 381 Rok jobs

Administrators for failed building firm Rok have managed to save 381 jobs by selling part of its construction and social house building division to Balfour Beatty.

But 235 were shown the door yesterday, meaning 3,400 of Rok's 3,800 employees have lost their jobs in the last two weeks since its collapse with debts of £190m.

There had been hopes that more jobs could be salvaged, with administrators PricewaterhouseCooper boasting of more than 100 expressions of interest in builder.

But interest waned as companies realised most of its businesses were no longer viable, with very few contracts still in the pipeline.
