FTSE preview: Footsie propped up by miners
The FTSE 100 is seen gaining on Friday, recovering after hitting a five-week closing low in the previous session, with investor sentiment aided by encouraging US economic data, and as miners and energy stocks look set to be supported by firmer commodity prices.
Friday feeling: Traders will hope shares can bounce back today.
The UK blue chip index looks set to rise 7 to 15 points, or as much as 0.3%, according to financial bookmakers, after closing down 108.79 points, or 1.8%, at 5,867.91 on Thursday, its lowest close since December 13.
'European equity markets are set to open higher as positive unemployment and housing data helped U.S. markets to pare earlier losses and close only marginally down, well off their intraday lows,' Jonathan Sudaria, a dealer at Capital Spreads, said.
In terms of domestic economic data, UK December retail sales figures are due. No important US economic data was scheduled for release on Friday.
