Best Buy rocked by departure of Wheway

Best Buy's push into the UK was dealt a further blow yesterday after the electronics giant announced the sudden departure of another key executive.

Scott Wheway, chief executive of Best Buy Europe, which is a joint venture with Charles Dunstone's Carphone Warehouse, is leaving the group to make way for chief operating officer Andrew Harrison.

Wheway, a retail high flyer who has held high profile roles at both Tesco and Boots, will move to a new role with American parent company Best Buy Inc and claimed his departure was part of a pre-planned succession.

He refused to say whether he would receive any pay-off.

In July Paul Antoniadis, chief executive of Best Buy Brands, decided to leave the business just three months after its first store in Thurrock, Essex, opened its doors.
