Rothschild in Chinese tie-up

City grandee Lord Rothschild's listed investment vehicle RIT Capital Partners has launched a joint venture to help China's private sector invest in Western companies.

The tie-up with Chinese investor group Creat and China-focused adviser Quercus Ventures intends to raise a $750m (£466m) fund by July.

It will also give Western companies an opportunity to enter the rapidly growing Chinese market.

Lord Rothschild - head of the English branch of the renowned banking dynasty - said the partners were ideally placed to raise capital in China, enable investments overseas and assist Western businesses to expand in China.

The private equity fund will initially focus on buying minority stakes in international companies across sectors including technology, clean tech, the green economy, healthcare, natural resources and luxury goods.
