Unilever is facing competition fine
Unilever, the consumer goods giant behind Persil, is expected to be fined tomorrow by competition watchdogs for fixing prices in the washing powder market.
The Anglo-Dutch firm, together with Ariel maker Procter & Gamble, are understood to have struck a deal with the European Commission that will see them receive a reduced penalty in exchange for admitting they participated in a cartel.
The Commission can fine companies as much as 10% of global sales, though those found guilty are typically fined 2% to 3% of sales.
Unilever closed up 1p to 1904p.
