Digital milestone for Carphone's Dunstone

Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone received a double boost as news that he is to be named Britain's first digital billionaire followed his creation's third upbeat profit forecast in six months.

The mobile phone retailer said underlying sales at European stores grew by 1.7% over the fourth quarter to the end of March.

Carphone (up 1.5p to 404p) said connections at US joint venture Best Buy Mobile rose 25.9% to 1.8m compared with analyst forecasts of 25-33%, while Virgin Mobile France, in which its owns 47.5%, recruited a net 161,000 new customers.
