Lord Myners: Worried he might have neglected the moral purpose of life

In 2009 Lord Myners - who as Gordon Brown's representative in the City signed off Sir Fred Goodwin's controversial pension - said in an interview with a Sunday newspaper he was worried he may have neglected the moral purpose of life and did not rule out becoming a minister of the church.

The peer is to become chairman of Cevian and a partner in the firm, which manages around £3bn including holdings in insurer Old Mutual and manufacturing firm Wolseley.

Cevian says it works in a 'constructive manner' to help companies realise long-term value.

Lord Myners, 62, said: 'Cevian's approach embodies many of the principles I believe are important...for society to maximise economic value from its capital and corporate assets.'
