Workspace hails London profit haul

Office landlord Workspace more than doubled annual pre-tax profits to £53m from £26m thanks to increased rents and improved occupancy in the capital.

Chief executive Harry Platt, who plans to retire in 2012, said: 'London is where we will get the growth in the UK economy. It is recovering well.'

Workspace (down 0.75p at 28.75p) said the search for a new chief executive was under way.

Chairman Tony Hales will also step down after the annual meeting in July. Daniel Kitchen will be the new chairman. The dividend rose 10% to 0.825p.
