Brains and TV chefs' brawn lift Bloomsbury publishing and create success

Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food and titles from Bake Off star Paul Hollywood have been big hits.

Although the group’s biggest success has been JK Rowling’s books for children, its two biggest divisions are now adult books, including cookery books and novels, and academic works.

The company said a “spectacular” year for its adult division and a robust performance in the academic business lifted group sales 11 per cent to £109.5million and underlying profits were up 4 per cent to £13million.

E-books sales surged 21 per cent to £12.2million, with one in eight titles now read electronically.

Its shares fell 3óp to 161óp.
