Marston's a little tipsy after World Cup sales

It said the soccer in Brazil boosted drinks but dampened food. 

Chief executive Ralph Findlay said: “England went home before full-time and that shows up in the numbers.” 

Supermarket sales of beers such as Pedigree and Hobgoblin rose a tenth as people watched the football at home.

Pub sales in the 41 weeks to July 19 were 4.1 per cent above last year, with food up 4.2 per cent. 

Harvester and Toby Carvery owner Mitchells & Butlers lifted third-quarter sales by 3.8 per cent, bringing growth in the first 42 weeks to 2.9 per cent. Food was also hit by the World Cup but demand has improved since.
