TalkTalk has teamed up with O2 in an ‘offensive’ move to boost mobile phone sales.

The home entertainment and broadband provider is trying to get into so-called quad play – offering mobile, landline, TV and internet on a single bill.

It has ditched its arrangement with Vodafone and will instead work on technology that will allow customers to make mobile phone calls over a network linked to their home internet.

‘This will mean you don’t have to hang out of the window to get a good signal,’ said TalkTalk’s chief executive Baroness Dido Harding.

There has been speculation that TalkTalk and O2 could merge in due course.

TalkTalk shares rose 3.8p to 294.1p yesterday.
