BAE Systems lands £365m contract to upgrade radar for four nations behind Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet
Aerospace and defence giant BAE Systems has landed a £365m contract to upgrade the radar for the four nations behind the Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet.
BAE will carry out the work at its Warton factory in Lancashire, giving the Typhoon one of the most advanced radar systems in the world, known as Captor E-scan.
Including work on the advanced electronics by Selex ES in Edinburgh, where 500 jobs will be sustained by the deal, the overall project is worth £800m.

BAE’s shares edged 0.2p higher to 463p.
Martin Taylor, head of BAE’s Combat Air division, said the Typhoon would meet the needs of modern warfare for decades to come. The RAF regularly uses Typhoon jets to intercept Russian military aircraft infringing on UK airspace.
Meanwhile, Babcock International jumped 20p to 1118p as the defence engineering firm was chosen as preferred bidder for the Ministry of Defence’s repair and maintenance division.
The Defence Support Group, based in Andover, Hampshire, looks after military vehicles and was put up for sale earlier this year as part of an asset disposal programme.
