Aga Rangemaster cooks up sales thanks to young London professionals

YOUNG professionals wanting a taste of the country in their city flats are helping cook up sales at Aga Rangemaster.

The group said sales of its new £5,000 Aga City60 cooker, which measures 60cm wide and comes in a range of colours including pink and green, were being helped by adverts on the London Underground.

“We are appealing to a younger demographic. Aga has been seen more as a rural product but these cookers can fit easily into a city flat.

"It appeals to young urbanites and empty nesters coming back into the city,” said chief executive William McGrath.

Demand for its Fired Earth tiles in the UK and Marvel fridges in the US were being helped by the recovering housing markets on both sides of the Atlantic, he added.

However trading in Europe particularly its French-based furniture operation Grange and its Irish stoves business Waterford Stanley had been mixed.

“The Irish rural consumer is still struggling economically with the mild autumn also hitting demand for stoves,” McGrath said. “It will temper the group’s growth this year.”

Its shares fell 6¾p to 128p.
