LOW cost bus company megabus is extending its push into Europe by widening its network to serve four German destinations from Brussels.

The Stagecoach Group subsidiary also announced that it will offer domestic services in Germany ??for less than the price of a cup of coffee??.

The company currently travels from Brussels to Cologne, but will extend its destinations to Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart as of December 16, with journeys twice a day in each direction and fares starting at €1.

The new services are being operated from megabus's base near Brussels, its first depot in mainland Europe, and using three double-decker Astromega coaches, manufactured by Belgium-based VanHool.

They are among nine vehicles based at the depot in Belgium, reflecting an investment of more than €4 million, and the new route adds to a new network of routes from Brussels that the business started in October, serving Rotterdam, Lille and Luxembourg.

Megabus managing director Edward Hodgson said: ??We look forward to bringing our bargain fares to even more customers through these new services and we will continue to work hard to attract even more people on to our greener, smarter and better value coach services.??

He added that the coach operator has experienced ??strong?? passenger growth across its European services.

The company was founded in 2003, and launched low-cost coach services between London and mainland Europe in 2012. Currently, it links around 110 destinations in the UK and Europe.

Stagecoach Group said in October that it planned to invest more than £20m to broaden the Megabus network in Europe.
