COLLAGEN Solutions has signed a supply deal with a company in the Netherlands that is working on a new device to help improve the management of patient wounds.

AIM-listed Collagen Solutions, which has its UK manufacturing facility and management team in Glasgow, said it will develop and supply a specific grade of "fibrous collagen powder" for Kyeron Medical Innovations.

The Enschede business will then turn that powder into a product which it aims to commercialise for use by medical professionals.

Kyeron, founded in 2007, already has a number of devices which are used in orthopaedic, neurosurgical and periodontal tissue grafting procedures.

Stewart White, chief executive of Collagen Solutions, said operations in Scotland and the United States will work alongside the recently acquired Southern Lights Biomaterials in New Zealand to work on the project.

He said: "This agreement to provide our medical grade fibrous collagen is an excellent example of how we now bring together our development capability and world-recognised expertise in the manufacture of medical grade collagen products.

"We are capable of providing clients with a product that meets their needs precisely. We are pleased to see that Kyeron has the confidence in the capabilities of Collagen Solutions to identify and manufacture consistently and in sufficient quantity, collagen products to satisfy their commercial needs as demand for their products grow.

"More importantly, we can support Kyeron with respect to regulatory submissions for new products containing our collagen."

It is not yet known when the device will launch or the exact applications it will have however Collage Solutions is to begin working on its product immediately.

It hopes the initial deal will lead on to a commercial level supply agreement.

Ronny Masselink, chief executive of Kyeron, said: "This is a great opportunity for us to work closely with a collagen specialist that can provide us with the highest grade materials consistently.

"Collagen Solutions will be our partner in the development of a fibrous collagen powder to benefit those patients suffering acute and chronic wounds. We see Collagen Solutions as our preferred supplier for these raw materials for this and other collagen-based biomaterials such as bone graft substitutes.

"Working with them we now have access to the required state-of-art collagen technology to create our next generation of innovative products."
