FTSE 100 movers: Smiths Group rallies; Hammerson hit by Intu news

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 1.2% at 6,220.15 in afternoon trade on Friday.

Diversified engineer Smiths Group was the standout gainer on the index, closely followed by Spirax-Sarco Engineering.

Elsewhere, InterContinental Hotels was a high riser after an initiation of coverage at 'buy' by broker Peel Hunt.

On the downside, JD Sports Fashion was under the cosh, with traders pointing to negative read-across from quarterly results from Nike.

Land Securities was in the red after fellow shopping centre owner Intu went into administration but said its shopping centres would remain open.

The owner of Lakeside and the Trafford Centre had said earlier that it was likely to call in administrators after failing to reach a standstill agreement with its lenders.

It said that since its update earlier in the week, discussions have continued with creditors over the terms of standstill-based agreements. However, "insufficient alignment and agreement has been achieved on such terms", it said.
