Based in Kentucky, Humana is one of America's largest publicly traded health benefits companies, with between 6.5m and 7m medical members located, primarily, in 18 states and Puerto Rico. The group offers coordinated health insurance coverage and related services, through a variety of traditional and Internet-based plans, for employer groups, government-sponsored programs and individuals. In April 2004, Humana announced that a subsidiary, Humana Insurance Company, had completed the acquisition of Ochsner Health Plan, one of the largest health benefits plans in the New Orleans market and the third largest in Louisiana.
