LONDON (ShareCast) - Might Carillion be building up for another bid for rival Balfour Beatty? Ahead of Wednesday's results and after last week's six-month takeover bid came to an end, Danny Fortson in the Sunday Times said the buying opportunity looks to have gone for good and suggested that Carillion itself was also one to avoid. Since it walked away from the acquisition, Carillion's shares have risen, but there appears little to get excited about, with profits expected to have flatlined and looking subdued for the year ahead.
Hold onto shares in Travis Perkins, suggested Questor in the Telegraph. The builders' merchant has performed well since joining the FTSE 100 in mid-2013, but has lagged behind housebuilding businesses as the building material sector has not matched the soaring level of house prices, while home maintenance has also been subdued in recent years.
Buy shares of Cineworld, Midas said in the Mail on Sunday. Sex sells and Fifty Shades of Grey has helped 2015 get off to a good start for the movie industry, with a record first seven weekends of the year for the UK. This is excellent news for Cineworld Group, which owns more than 200 cinemas and almost 2,000 screens in Britain, Eastern Europe and Israel. Ahead of the results unveiling in March, Cineworld shares have had a good run, but there is still plenty of long-term growth as the company looks to improve profitability and expand in Eastern Europe.
