LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Carnival's Cunard cruise business said it would suspend voyages for an extra month because of the Covid-19 crisis.
The world's biggest cruise operator announced on 16 March that it would suspend trips for Cunard, Princess Cruises and other divisions.

Cunard said on Monday it would extend the suspension to 15 May having previously said it intended to restart sailing on 11 April. The cruise line, which specialises in journeys between London and New York, said there could be further changes to the timing of ships returning to service.

The coronavirus pandemic has cast doubt on the future of cruise operators after passengers were trapped on board ships that became breeding grounds for the virus. Carnival shares, fell 7.8% to 905.4p at 12:05 BST. The shares have lost about three-quarters of their value in 2020.

"The impact of Covid-19 is affecting personal routines and businesses as well as placing significant travel restrictions around the world," Simon Palethorpe, president of Cunard, said. "It is too soon to know exactly how this situation will evolve ... The Cunard team will commit all our resources, energy and talent to weather this storm and come out stronger than ever."
