LONDON (ShareCast) - Equipment rental group Ashtead Group was a top riser after saying it expects to beat full-year estimates after profits jumped by a third to a record high in its first quarter. Results were supported by strong revenue growth and improving margins.

Barclays gained after selling its Spanish operations to CaixaBank SA for about €800m.

Hargreaves Lansdown was a big faller after its final results showed assets under administration (AuA) were less than consensus expectations. The financial services group lifted AuA up 29% at £46.9bn, versus forecasts of at least £48bn.

Admiral Group declined after Berenberg retained a 'sell' and cut its target price from 1168p to 1166p.
