LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has said he plans to have visited every state in the US by the end of 2017, further fuelling speculation that he is preparing for a career in politics.
Zuckerberg has spoken previously about his efforts to learn Mandarin as well as building a new personal assistant to run his home, and in 2017 his "personal challenge" is to speak with people in every state of America.
He has already visited around 20 states, and in a Facebook post published on Tuesday announced his intention to complete his latest personal venture.
"My personal challenge for 2017 is to have visited and met people in every state in the US by the end of the year," Zuckerberg wrote. "I've spent significant time in many states already, so I'll need to travel to about 30 states this year to complete this challenge."
Zuckerberg said that the purpose of the challenge is to find out more about those living in the US and how best to approach the future.
"My work is about connecting the world and giving everyone a voice. I want to personally hear more of those voices this year," he added.
The tech leader remarked that the world was "at a turning point in history", and said that technology has benefitted many, but also hindered some.
"This has contributed to a greater sense of division than I have felt in my lifetime. We need to find a way to change the game so it works for everyone," Zuckerberg wrote.
