LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - The White House is investigating several Silicon Valley giants over potential violations of antitrust laws.
Donald Trump told Axios on Monday that he was "in charge" of the situation.

"I am definitely in charge, and we are certainly looking at it."

Trump said he was looking into "all three" major players - meaning Amazon, Facebook and Alphabet - as part of his latest attack on the industry.

The President stated that a previous administration had thought about breaking up several key players in the tech industry and noted that, while the Federal Trade Commission had investigated Alphabet during the Obama administration, no antitrust violation was uncovered.

Makan Delrahim, Trump's antitrust chief at the Justice Department, has previously questioned whether or not there was enough economic evidence to assert that the tech companies were harming either competition or innovation.

However, in recent months, antitrust officials in the European Union slapped Alphabet with a $5bn fine for marketing its own apps in an anticompetitive fashion, prompting Google to cease the bundling of its browser and search engine with the Google Play store in Europe.
