The Invesco Perpetual European Opportunities Fund aims to achieve capital growth through a portfolio of investments primarily in European companies, excluding the UK. In pursuing this objective, the fund managers may include investments that they consider appropriate which include transferable securities, money market instruments, warrants, collective investment schemes, deposits and other permitted investments and transactions as detailed in Appendix 2 of the most recent Prospectus.
European equity markets were broadly positive during August despite ongoing poor macroeconomic newsflow. German and Spanish indices were negative (in local currency terms), whereas most other major European markets posted gains. Consumer related sectors outperformed, as did technology and financials, while utilities and materials were underperformers.Inflation eased from its recent high as oil prices continued to recede, while investor sentiment was also buoyed by a 6.0% fall in the euro relative to the US dollar, which helped European exporters. The FTSE Europe ex-UK index rose by 4.0% (£), while the HSBC European Smaller Companies ex-UK gained 5.6% (£).
