The objective of the fund is to provide capital growth through investment in global equities and bonds.
From launch on March 2000 to 26 February 2001 - the last dealing date before the Fund's year end - the value of units cum the pro rata distribution fell 10.4% from 1000p to 896.16p. Over the period, the FTSE World Index fell 11.9% on a total return basis.
While the initial response to lower interest rates was positive - the NASDAQ rose 12% in January - the downward trend continued in February and it is still impossible to predict whether the economy will have a soft landing or a hard landing. With confidence at such a low ebb, it is possible that the slowdown could continue beyond the sex months currently discounted by markets into the 2nd half of the year.
