To achieve good returns, principally through capital growth, by investing, whether directly or indirectly, in the United Kingdom, principally in smaller companies, in any economic sector.
The Fund has fallen in value by 9.0% in the six months to the end of September compared to a fall of 20.8% in the FTSE Small Cap (ex Investment Trusts) Index. We have made some additions, including those to the engineer Rotork and the holiday operator Holidaybreak. We took a new holding in Xchanging, a provider of business process outsourcing. In addition to trimming holdings in a small number of names we completed the sale of Ulster T.V.
The Fund retains a focus on companies with strong earnings and cash flow growth characteristics as we believe that these stocks will perform better in the longer term.
