LONDON (ShareCast) - Terrestrial broadcaster ITV was providing a lift to the media sector on Monday afternoon following the strong viewing figures for its celebrity reality TV show 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here'.
'I'm a Celebrity', which finished its 12th series this weekend, averaged an audience of 9.8m viewers and a 42% audience share from 21:30.
The final on Saturday night had a peak audience of 10.6m, which was an impressive 47% share of TV viewers.
Panmure Gordon analyst Alex DeGroote said today: "This is significant because the ability to deliver major prime-time audiences is key to advertising and, in turn, content/format sales. If anything, the entertainment genre – as opposed to drama – has been tougher for ITV this year."
ITV has also confirmed eight new episodes of popular period drama 'Downton Abbey' for autumn 2013 plus an extended special episode for Christmas 2013.
DeGroote said: "The shares remain well supported and, in our view, the valuation is attractive. […] There is also growing appreciation of the Content/Studios arm of ITV."
Shares were up 1.42% at 100.3p by 15:09 on Monday. Sector peers Eros International, Trinity Mirror, Hibu and Pearson were also performing well in afternoon trade.
