LONDON (ShareCast) - Carillion's Group Finance Director, Richard Adam, on Thursday sold, on behalf of his wife, 40,000 shares.

Each of these was sold for 309.04p, for a total trade value of £123,616. Adam's stake now stands at 118,238 shares.

The disposal was made a week after the support services company announced that it had bagged £180m-worth of highway contracts in recent weeks, including a £70m deal to upgrade another section of the M6.

Under the contract, the FTSE 250 group will transform the M6 between junctions 10A and 13 in the West Midlands into a so-called smart motorway which use a range of technologies and new operating procedures to control the flow of traffic.

The firm is also part of a joint venture that has been picked by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council as the preferred bidder to design and build the A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road. It said its share of the £100m contract would be some £50m.

In addition, Carillion was awarded a clutch of smaller contracts including a 12-month contract for Northumberland County Council to build the £25m Morpeth Northern bypass and a £16m 20-month contract for Leeds City Council for the maintenance of the A58 Woodhouse Tunnel.
