LONDON (ShareCast) - Maiden annual profits confirmed Big Data aspirant 1Spatial has gained traction in this burgeoning market, with the company claiming a healthy pipeline of opportunities for the year ahead too.

Revenue jumped 43% to £17.3m in the year to end-January, including £4.7m from the Star-Apic acquisition made in June 2013.

Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation soared to £1.1m, with underlying losses after tax of almost halved to £2.2m.

Chief Executive Marcus Hanke said: "1Spatial is entering an exciting period of growth, well-funded and with the structures in place to evolve and execute on our strategy. The year ended 31 January 2015 will see us continue to develop our product and service offerings and to develop new geographic and industry markets to harness that potential."

He said the company entered the new financial year with a strong order backlog in excess of £7m and a significant pipeline of opportunities, with the balance sheet in a healthy position of year-end cash of £11.2m.

EBITDA growth in the core 1Spatial business was led by an increase in higher margin software licence sales, while Star-Apic, a Belgium-based provider of Geographic Information Systems software and solutions specialising in land and infrastructure management, also performed strongly with its integration on-track.

Shares in 1Spatial, which had spiked earlier in the month, were down 8.3% to 6.88p just before close on Tuesday.
