LONDON (ShareCast) - Five BT board members last week each acquired 486 shares under its Equiniti share plan, it was announced Monday.

Those purchasing shares included Chairman Sir Michael Rake and Chief Executive Officer Gavin Patterson.

All of the shares were bought for 370.25p each.

The announcement comes one day after it was revealed its intention to create 1,600 new engineering jobs as part of plans to roll out fibre broadband across the UK.

BT’s Openreach business said it expected a significant number of the new jobs to be filled by ex-servicemen and women.

Openreach Chief Executive Joe Garner said he was looking to attract the best in the country to a career in engineering in an effort to improve customer service, install lines and fix problems more rapidly.

Meanwhile, Simon Fox, the Chief Executive of Trinity Mirror, bought 12,659 shares in the newspaper-owner.

He paid 158p a share, spending a total of £20,001 and taking his holding in the group to 87,861.

The group, which owns the Sunday Mirror and Daily Mirror newspapers, last week said it had seen an improvement in advertising revenue in March and April, after it decline in the previous two months.

Circulation revenues were down just 1%.
