LONDON (ShareCast) - The chief executive of Liontrust, John Ions, made nearly £1.2m from offloading shares in the asset management firm, the company revealed on Friday.

Ions, who joined Liontrust's board in May 2010, sold 500,000 shares at 230p a pop, making £1.15m.

This follows the exercise of share options and subsequent sale of 200,000 shares last Friday at 243.375p each for £486,750.

The transactions left Ions with 905,180 shares in the company, equal to a 2% interest valued at just under £2m at the current market price.

Meanwhile, Liontrust also said on Friday that chairman Adrian Collins sold 100,000 shares at 230p each for £230,000, leaving him with 403,998 shares (0.9% stake).

Commenting on first-quarter trading last month, Ions said that Liontrust had "enjoyed a strong start to the financial year", with net inflows of £190m as assets under management grew to £3.78bn.

The stock price has fallen by around 15% in the year-to-date and stands broadly flat over the same time last year. However, it is up nearly 90% over the last five years.
