LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - West Africa-focussed exploration company Oriole Resources updated the market on its 90%-owned Wapouzé gold project in Cameroon on Wednesday, including a best trenching interval of two metres at 4.06 grams of gold per tonne.

The AIM-traded firm said five trenches were completed for a total of 2,524 metres at the Bataol Zone.

All trenches returned anomalous gold using a 0.10 grams per tonne cut-off, with the best results also including two metres at 0.53 grams of gold per tonne, 1.5 metres at 0.53 grams per tonne, and two metres at 0.5 grams per tonne.

It said mineralisation was primarily hosted by quartz veinlets within sedimentary schist, adding that soil sampling was completed over the southwest of the project area, returning grades of up to 141 parts of gold per billion.

"We are continuing to gain an understanding of the gold mineralised systems at Wapouzé and these recent soil and trenching results add to that knowledge," said chief executive officer Tim Livesey.

"Previous sampling at the project had identified extensive surface anomalies, with some significant gold grades in soils.

"As we better understand the local geology and the likely influences of structure on the mineralisation here, as at Bibemi to the south, the team continues to develop the exploration programme with a view to identifying drill targets."

At 1551 GMT, shares in Oriole Resources were up 3.94% at 0.37p.
