LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Internet of things investment company Tern noted an announcement from its portfolio company FundamentalVR on Wednesday, that it has launched 'Fundamental Surgery', a "first-of-its-kind" software-as-a-service platform, in the US.
The AIM-traded firm has an 18.3% holding in FundamentalVR.

It said Fundamental Surgery combined virtual reality with haptics - the sense of touch 0 to create low-cost and scalable 'flight simulator' experiences for trainee and qualified surgeons.

The software-as-a-service system used a unique 'Surgical Haptic Intelligence Engine', which was calibrated to mimic real-life sensations relating to surgical practices.

Its initial US offering would focus on training packages within the orthopedic surgical disciplines.

Tern said current procedures supported include spinal pedicle screw placement, posterior hip replacement, and total knee arthroplasty.

Further orthopedic procedures would be added during the fourth quarter with other disciplines, including general surgery and cardiovascular slated for 2019.

"We are delighted to see the launch of Fundamental Surgery in the United States, which we believe represents an important next step for the company," said Tern chief executive officer Al Sisto.
