Amur Minerals submits environmental assessment for Kun-Manie

By Josh White

Date: Wednesday 15 Jan 2020

LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Russia-focussed nickel-copper sulphide exploration and development company Amur Minerals Corporation announced on Wednesday that the baseline environmental assessment (BLEA) for its Kun-Manie nickel copper sulphide project was now complete, and had been filed and approved by the necessary Russian Federation agencies.
The AIM-traded firm said the study, compiled by the Institute of Water and Environmental Problems Division (IWEP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Far East for the area in and around the exploration and mining licence, was based on information it acquired, as well as IWEP assessments including district, regional and federally published information and materials.

It said the BLEA component of its permanent conditions defined the baseline line pre production environmental setting and conditions.

That, Amur explained, formed an "integral part" of the environmental quality management system and the related controls for monitoring the impacts of the planned mining operation at Kun-Manie.

Specifically, the impacts related to mining, sedimentation, air quality management, emergency procedures, water quality monitoring and management systems established that no extraordinary considerations beyond those of a typical mining operation were required.

"Completion of the baseline environmental assessment, that is required for inclusion in the [Russia-required feasibility study], confirms mining of our large scale Kun-Manie nickel copper sulphide deposit will not require any extraordinary programmes or procedures beyond those already planned by the company to undertake the implementation of our operation," said chief executive officer Robin Young.

"Typical monitoring and mitigation procedures can be implemented to ensure protection of the environment during construction and operations."

At 1539 GMT, shares in Amur Minerals Corporation were down 0.78% at 1.92p.
