LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Symphony Environmental celebrated the results of an independent inquiry by a former High Court deputy judge into its oxo-biodegradable plastic technology on Monday
Peter Susman QC's review into the AIM-listed plastics outfit's technology found that, based on several pieces of scientific evidence, the case for commercialising its product was "clear and compelling". Symphony commissioned the review.
In his 14-page opinion, Susman asserted that the benefits of Symphony's oxo-biodegradable technology were "obvious" and that claims the product would encourage further littering were "fanciful and unrealistic".
Susman stated that it was no longer "tenable" to argue against oxo-biodegradable technology as being effective, with recent research showing that the technology was effective in facilitating "significantly speedier degradation than is the case when that technology is not used".
Symphony's chief executive Michael Laurier highlighted that in addition to Susman's conclusions, the technology also conformed to the EU's Packaging Waste Directive and noted that it was "the only oxo-biodegradable product" to be awarded an ABNT Ecolabel, a voluntary method of environmental performance certification in the South American nation of Brazil.
As of 1320 GMT, Symphony Environmental shares had rocketed 23.14% to 10.47p.
