Ilika expands Stearex solid-state battery range

By Josh White

Date: Wednesday 26 Apr 2017

LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - Materials innovation and solid-state battery technology company Ilika announced the launch of its 'Stereax P180' product on Wednesday, extending the operating temperature range of the Stereax family of solid-state batteries.
The AIM-traded firm said it followed the launch of 'Stereax M250' solid-state battery in April 2016, which focussed on miniaturisation of the solid-state battery technology.

It said the 'Stereax P180' brought the benefits of the Stereax products, including miniaturisation and energy density, with the additional benefits of support for extended temperature ranges from -40°C up to +150°C.

That range was required for many industrial Internet of Things and automotive end applications enabling always on, self-charging energy efficient IoT solutions for more demanding environments, Ilika's board explained.

It said that, as the trend towards digitising industrial processes gathered momentum, it believed there was a growing requirement for components with enhanced tolerance to temperature, moisture and vibration.

"For industries like ours gathering more manufacturing and in-service maintenance information on our products enables us to improve operational efficiency as it enables full life cycle traceability and visibility from manufacture through to disposal," said non-executive director of Ilika and CTO of Meggitt professor Keith Jackson.

"Miniature, ultra-low maintenance batteries are an essential building block to the required increased instrumentation of the build and maintenance processes, both for new and retrofit capabilities."

Olika claimed that solid-state batteries offered more stable, energy-efficient, reliable battery technology that could be used in conjunction with all current energy harvesting technologies.

It said they enabled self-sustaining power sources that did not need to be changed regularly or use additional expensive cabling.

"The Stereax product family brings a range of solid-state battery solutions which customers can license to enable battery technology that meets the demanding needs of Industrial IoT and automotive environments," said Ilika CEO Graeme Purdy.

"Ilika continues its commitment to bringing market leading solutions to address the wide needs of battery technology in the connected world."
