LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - Technology and intellectual property services provider Tekcapital announced a successful test production and independent taste testing of µSalt, its proprietary, low-sodium salt product, on Wednesday.
The AIM-traded firm said it manufactured test quantities of µSalt in a 'current Good Manufacturing Practice' facility regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Test quantities of µSalt were then supplied to several organisations for independent testing and evaluation.
The results of the study indicate that a taste test of traditional potato chips versus those salted with µSalt, with approximately 40% less sodium than traditional potato chips, yielded no statistically significant difference in perceived salt flavour.
"We are excited to report that we have produced and tested our natural µSalt product and have found that it provides a level of taste similar to traditional salt, but with approximately 40% less sodium," said Tekcapital executive chairman Clifford M. Gross.
"If widely adopted, we believe that the potential positive impact to improving the health of consumers could be significant.
"We are currently in discussions with a number of leading companies regarding commercialisation of this exciting new product and we will update the market in due course."
Tekcapital said that, according to market research firm IBISWorld Inc., sales of table salt in the United States in 2013 were approximately $598.7m.
