LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - AIM-listed miner Premier African Minerals has expanded its drilling programme after it saw "significantly" more lithium mineralisation from drilling than expected at its site in Zimbabwe.
The company drilled 1,958 metres of the current 2,500 metre drilling programme, which is expected to finish mid-February, at its Zulu lithium and tantalum project.
Lithium bearing pegmatites, mainly spodumene and petalite, were identified at vertical depths of over 200 meters and along the strike length of some 3.5km on the Zulu concessions.
Some holes also showed visible lithium mineralisation over drilled widths of up to 37 metres, with 22% of assay results have been received to date from the South African assay laboratories.
This has led the company to expand the drilling programme from the original 2,500 metres.
Chief executive George Roach, said: "The drill programme at Zulu lithium project is progressing very well and we are seeing significantly more lithium mineralisation from the drilling than originally anticipated.
"The results to date warrant an extension of the current drilling programme and Premier believes that Zulu has the potential to rank as one of the best global hard rock lithium projects being explored at this time."
The initial drilling programme was designed to increased known resources over the 3.55km strike length as the company drilled 15 diamond holes for 1,842 metres with two drill rigs now operating.
Shares in Premier African Minerals were down 4% to 0.288p at 1114 GMT.
