LONDON (ShareCast) - Adam Walker, the newly appointed Financial Director of aerospace giant GKN, bought himself a round of shares worth 252,980 pounds.

The purchase comes just a few weeks after the company posted a jump in annual sales and underlying profits, which helped to offset a decline in the military aerospace market.

GKN said a recovery in the North American automotive market and stronger than expected car and van production in China fuelled strong internal growth in its GKN Driveline business, which supplies drive-shafts, gearboxes and other parts. Its sales rose 6% to £180m and its trading profit was 5% up at £246m.

However, Europe, where the new car market is generally struggling, was flat due to weak demand particularly in the southern part of the continent.

Walker, who bought 65,000 shares at 389.20p a time, replaced William Seeger last month. The purchased shares are his only holding in the company.
