Thursday preview: US corporate results, Airtel Africa in the spotlight

By Alexander Bueso

Date: Wednesday 27 Jan 2021

LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - The market spotlight on Thursday will be on a raft of quarterly updates from several of Wall Street's largest firms by market value, including Apple, Boeing and Tesla.
A raft of economic data is also due out Stateside including a first reading for fourth quarter economic growth, weekly jobless claims figures and a reading for new home sales in December.

Across the Channel, the spotlight will be on euro area surveys from the European Commission for consumer and industrial confidence in January.

No major economic releases are scheduled in the UK.

On the domestic corporate front meanwhile, Airtel Africa is among the names scheduled to publish updates.

In particular, UBS analyst John Kim pointed out the near-term risk to the firm from the possible disconnection of subscribers in Nigeria on account national ID registrations.

According to Kim, disconnections of three months on average could subtract anywhere from -3% to -8% from the company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation for the 2022 financial year.
