LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Engineering group Versarien said it had agreed a construction materials collaboration with infrastructure firm AECOM.
Versarien and AECOM will work initially on a project involving the incorporation of the AIM-listed firm's proprietary Nanene graphene nano-platelets into large-scale polymer structures used in civil infrastructure projects, with a view to increasing their structural strength.
Chief executive Neill Ricketts said that, although the deal was the first where Versarien's graphene will be incorporated into a large scale structure, the future potential was "considerable", as the volume of the semi-metal needed was "significantly larger" than that used in many other applications.
Versarien signed a collaboration agreement with South Korean firm AXIA Materials earlier this week.
As part of the deal, Versarien will use the same Nanene products to develop graphene-enhanced materials to be used in AXIA's structural composites and will also use its Graphinks products to incorporate sensors and thermal devices into the firm's composite building panels.
As of 0925 BST, Versarien shares had built up 5.82% to 154.50p.
