FTSE 250 movers: Tullow and JD lead slight gain

(ShareCast News) - London's mid cap index was marginally higher late on Monday, led by Tullow Oil and JD Sports.
Further strengthening of crude oil prices, with Brent Crude almost touching $56 per barrel again, Tullow Oil was lifted to the top of the leaderboard. The debt-laden producer is seen as one of the most closely linked to movements in oil prices.
Ahead of its final results on Tuesday, JD Sports Fashions was another strong riser.
The retailer said in a trading update that headline profit before tax in will exceed market expectations of £200m by up to 15% and since then has seen its shares rise from 325p to 390p last week, with Monday seeing a further 16p jump.
Barclays analysts said they expected to see continued strength in LFLs, though not necessarily at the 10% level reported in the first half.
Property group Shaftesbury was lifted by reported that it is braced for a bid from Hong Kong billionaire Samuel Tak Lee.
The reclusive investor has amassed a stake of 18% of the company, which owns most of Chinatown and large chunks of Soho and Covent Garden.
Gold miners, including Hochschild and Centamin followed the price of the yellow metal down.
Gold had shed around 0.4% to $1252.5 an ounce, with silver down 1.93% to $17.80 an ounce. This followed gold's run higher last week on souped-up geopolitical tension.
