Spire Healthcare opens new hospital in South Nottingham

(ShareCast News) - FTSE 250 private hospital group Spire Healthcare has opened a new hospital in Tollerton, South Nottingham, following successful registration with the Care Quality Commission.
The 58-bed new hospital has five theatres, an endoscopy suite, a 20-room outpatients department and oncology suite, as well as an advanced radiology department that comprises a 3T MRI, CT and X-ray.

Spire said the facility will offer patients a wide range of integrated surgical, medical and diagnostic services that will meet the needs of Nottingham and its surrounding areas.

Will Pressley, Spire Nottingham Hospital director, said: "This is the first time that Spire Healthcare has built a greenfield facility in an entirely new operational area. In our initial planning stages, there was strong feedback from consultants that this is where a hospital was needed to provide Nottingham and wider East Midland communities with excellent access to a comprehensive range of medical services and up-to-date facilities.

"Spire Healthcare has made a huge investment in outstanding patient services, excellent patient accommodation and the best technology, enabling us to deliver the highest quality care and clinical outcomes for all our patients at Spire Nottingham Hospital. I am very pleased to have been part of the leadership team for this project and I believe we have the best independent hospital in the Midlands area".

Spire Healthcare apologised over the weekend after former surgeon Ian Paterson, who was employed at the group's Midlands hospitals, Solihull Parkway and Little Aston, was convicted of 20 counts of wounding with intent by a jury in Nottingham Crown Court.

Paterson was said to have carried out "extensive, life-changing operations for no medically-justifiable reason".

According to media reports, there is a civil case being brought by about 350 women against Spire, which will go to court in October.

At 0917 BST, Spire shares were up 0.7% to 340.20p.
