Nigel Farage reported to be subject of FBI's Russia probe

(ShareCast News) - Former Ukip leader Nigel Farage is a 'person of interest' in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe into Donald Trump's campaign team's links with Russia, according to a newspaper report on Thursday.
Quoting sources with knowledge of the matter, the Guardian said that FBI investigators were looking into Farage and his connections to the US President, as well as Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Farage was seen with Trump and other members of his campaign team during last year's presidential election, which the Republican won amid allegations that the Kremlin attempted to influence the result of the vote.

The former leader of the pro-Brexit party resigned last year in the aftermath of the referendum, before briefly taking over and departing again during a turbulent few months for the right-wing outfit.

According to the source, "if you triangulate Russia, WikiLeaks, Assange and Trump associates the person who comes up with the most hits is Nigel Farage."

Farage responded to the reports on Thursday by saying that he was "extremely doubtful" that he may be a person of interest in the FBI investigation.

"In response to the Guardian article, it has taken me a long time to finish reading because I am laughing so much," Farage said in a statement.

"This hysterical attempt to associate me with the Putin regime is a result of the liberal elite being unable to accept Brexit and the election of President Trump."
